The Amazing True Story Of The Moto X

I personally think that Google made a mistake with the price. It can't be compared in the same realm of the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One or other flagships. They should have pursued the mid-range market instead. Specs can somehow be ignored, but the price is too high. With a lower price it could be a hit because of the software (if it works as advertised) and the customization options.

Google isn't pricing it, Motorola is. When Google acquired Motorola they said Moto wouldn't get any special treatment. Keeping that in mind, wouldn't you consider subsidization of their new device "special treatment"? I don't blame Google for this any more than I can for them not subsidizing my HTC One.

Well iirc it was the Moto CEO months ago who said that they don't need to markup their phones 50% to turn a profit. That is obviously a jab at what the S4 and One cost. So clearly you don't need to subsidize a phone OR charge $600 for it.

That said.....the price we have is for AT&T. We don't know what Moto is actually charging for the phone yet. So I'll reserve judgement until I know all the facts.

Any way you choose to look at it, Google didn't make any mistakes. Motorola may be making them, but Google is not. AFAIK the only thing Google did was give input on the device, and that was it. It's Motorola's baby, not Google's.

I think on a technical level that may be correct, Google made a big deal to point out that this was the first new phone in the pipeline that represented the collaboration between Google and Motorola.

I think that pointing it out was more in reference to the better integration of Google Now more than anything. They were pointing to the innovation in the phone that was taken from the Googlers. I never read those statements to mean Google had a big hand in it. The battery life of the device is 100% Motorola, not Google. Toned down Blur is Moto as well. Extra sensors and the like were Motorola's doing as well. The only Google I see in this phone is the physical design cues and Now integrated better (the way it really should be).

Had to laugh at that story though even though (feel I'm in the vast minority online) I'm going to pick one up

I was referring to Google as Motorola is now a Google company. Misunderstanding aside, I agree with you on subsidizing, but to the consumer, the Moto X will cost as much as the S4 and the One and it's specs don't deserve that price tag. The on-contract price is the same story. It should cost $149 IMHO.

I like the color options and the body of the phone. I don't see anything wrong with it but the price.

Every comparison I've seen on Moto X and competition pretty much shows the Moto X as the winner. Who cares about specs when it means nothing in the real world. Perhaps Motorola has a winner.

People love new Android devices and no matter who bought who or what the specs are or what anyone says in any review, it will sell very well and they will make a killing on it. New shiny objects that do little things that other objects don't do, is what people gravitate towards. It's happened a million times in the cell phone market and it will continue to happen.
