To recap from other threads, I bought Moto X #1 by phone with VZW full price (to keep my unlimited). Arrives DOA with mic problem (see next paragraph). Returned. Waited for LG G2. Got G2 #1, speaker digital breakup/artifact problem. Returned. Got G2 #2, same problem plus burned hole in pocket for no reason. Returned same day. Got G2 #3, same speaker problem. Waited for verizon to analyze phone calls, didn't hear back, got fed up, returned. Got Moto X #2, called from store to leave voicemail. Listened to myself. Mic problem. Left voicemail with sales guy's phone (different brand, older thing, just for comparison to prove to them). Sounds good. Insisted I return immediately. They are not happy and give me attitude. I paid $35. I'm back on old 3G phone.

Mic problem: I'm not sure I have same problems as others have and doubt the OTA will fix it. My voice on other end is muted, distant, comes and goes, and is crackly and incoherent. I played back my message to a co-worker and he couldn't understand me nor did it sound like my voice. The OTA claims it fixes choppy audio that happens "sometimes". This is 100% reproducible 100% of the call duration in any environment to any phone number. Speakerphone was a little better but just louder like the whole mess was just amplified some.

I REALLY wanted this phone. I am even more jealous now that they are fixing camera issues. It's the size I wanted (although funny thing is it looks tiny to me compared to the G2's 5.2" now). I'm not crazy about stock android as I thought I might be but found apps I can install to help. What does it take to get one that works (at least most of the time for now)? The AT&T store in the same plaza has a demo Moto X and it sounded perfectly fine. The AT&T salesperson had one in his pocket and he loved it except for the camera.

I don't understand, it's like verizon got a bad batch. I don't understand how this store never got any moto x returns with my problem and it's not a known issue with customer service. I'm just THAT unlucky?

Do other people have the same experience with the Moto as me? Are they just as frustrated and jealous? I've read about people being cut off etc but not sure it's what I experience. Oh, and only other problem that I'm not sure is hardware related, is the haptic feedback of the keyboard is pumped up waaay too much. Their demo unit did it too. The AT&T demo unit was softer and comfortable.

I'm on AT&T, but everyone I've talked to on the phone has said I sound very clear, and have never asked me to repeat myself since I've had the Moto X. I know there were occasional issues with my Xperia TLs sound quality, but so far the X doesn't seem to show any issues.

Day 1 owner here, too. No problems. In fact, when I was on a business trip, I called my wife while walking down the sidewalk in the middle of a metropolitan city. Trucks, buses, cars, etc. were all going by making quite the racket. I asked her if she could hear me okay and she said, "Yeah, perfectly. It's real quiet. Are you calling from your [hotel] room?" Considering the high level of noise around me, even I was taken back by her comment.

Many people have the mic issue (including myself) and everyone has the camera issue. Motorola also for some reason is very haptic happy (which after the mic fix will be the only thing i don't like about the phone, the slider lock vibration. i *hate* it). That being said many people in general who order electronics often have problems with them when they first come out.

So what do you do with your phone if people can't understand you? You don't use it as a phone and you're waiting for an update that you hope will fix it?

The tech support person I'm in contact with said she could not find any call logs of people calling verizon with my complaints about the Moto X or the G2 though which I thought was weird.

So I did a few more tests tonight. I went to a different AT&T and called using their Moto X and it sounded great (on my voicemail). I then went a few stores down to T-Mobile and called from their S4 which was OK, then from their HTC One, which was actually just borderline good to me. T-Mobile said it'll be a long time before they get any Moto X in store. I can't do test calls from verizon demo units in the two corporate verizon stores near me because they don't have them activated for some reason.

This is my third day on my Sprint Moto X phone. No problems with voice calls so far. Like others I am not crazy about the camera, but hoping the next update helps. Sorry to hear about your problems. I had the same QC issues with my Palm Pre I.

the slide unlock. that doesn't do it i'm afraid. If i wake the phone *first*, then slide unlock there's no haptic, but with the active screen lock, slide down, blech, haptic, and no setting will remove it. *detest*

i actually changed mine out, but this one was the same. I brought my old non-moto x phone with me and was going to hook it up and not get the replacement if it was no good, but i couldn't quite tell in the store, plus, i am not big on phone talking and figured i could wait a week to hear if there was a fix. If there wasn't, i would have tried a couple more replacements a couple weeks apart and if that didn't work i was gonna try find a new phone, which woulda sucked, cuz i dislike all the other phones out there.

I bit the bullet and bought another one from Verizon today. It's been great so far, no cutting out, but I made several calls before I left the store.

So you're an unlimited texter? That reminds me of something funny. The first time I called tech support with my first Moto X, she asked me to record my voice using voice recorder and play it back and see if it's distorted. Well... oops! More like, WTH! There's no voice recorder on this thing?? So out the window that idea went. I can't believe it didn't come with one, so did it and I just missed it? I was wondering, what happens if you record your voice and then play it back, do you notice the problem? Assuming you have or can find a voice recorder.

i have unlimited texting even though i'm not a particularly chatty type texter. where. when. how. what. why. lol. happy birthday.

I tried the google keep voice recorder just now and it was fine, but some people on the motorola company forums tried to download regular ones and the voice while recording non-choppy, was too low. bizarre.

looks like you really wanted the g2. 3 g2s in a row.. I've had the maxx since release and I think I'd give it a few more tries because I love the phone, if I didn't I would just get an iPhone plain and simple.
