Moto X - Confusion with sound

Why does the sound sometimes come out of the speaker and other times via BT? Can the Moto X wake by saying the Google Now command on a BT device or do you have to speak into the mic?

Why does the sound sometimes come out of the speaker and other times via BT? Can the Moto X wake by saying the Google Now command on a BT device or do you have to speak into the mic?

I believe it is compatable with a BT device [assuming the device has a microphone ] I've used my headset while driving with Google now, but I haven't tested to see if perhaps the Phone's microphone instead.
