go for it... it has no side effect

Are you asking how to do so (in which case, just go Settings > Apps > Messaging > Disable) or if everything will still work if you do? I did, didn't notice any adverse effects, still able to send and receive SMS, Touchless Controls and Motorola Connect still work.
