Thats good news for consumers here but I still wonder why they are making this move so late in its life.

Why not? Probably had supply constraints. This was probably the plan all along.

Note: I expect this to change once the Lenovo acquisition is complete but it seems like Motorola doesn't have the channels right now to support a near immediate global launch.

I would think that the Motomaker customization process would also work with other phones, otherwise what would you do with the factory and personnel when you decide to discontinue the phone.

Oh I agree it will stay. Just surprised by a late move to expand the moto x in its late life.

However in Australia if marketed well they might lap it up
