What temperature is yours getting to?
It really depends on a number of things. The outside temp. The lenght of time that you was using your phone ,what you was doing,Gps,etc.
I wouldn't really be to concerned unless it was approaching 120 degrees.
Mine varies , common to get 37c(98 degrees F) but it all depends on lenght of actual use for example.
It usually cools down fairly quick currrently it's just sitting here and showing 31c(about 88 degrees F).
Room temp. is in low 70's F

Also, if your phone is fighting to get an signal, the phone will get warm.

In my experience with the Moto X a good "resting" temp (like picking up your phone after not using it for 30 mins) is 75 degrees. Light usage on WiFi should be 85 +/- 5 degrees. Heavy usage and/or on LTE is 94-96. Once my phone gets to 100+, I try to close some apps or See if there is anything causing my phone to get to triple digit temperatures.

The phone has a built in fail safe that shuts the phone off if it gets too hot. You should have nothing to worry about
