I really wanted wood but I am hearing all these stories about the back peeling. Plus is the battery better, worse, or the same as the Nexus 5?

It's a great phone. Buy it. If youre worried about wood peeling, get leather or one of the resin backs.

I went from walnut to bamboo because of a light lift in the back panel. If bamboo does the same, big deal.

As for battery, YMMV. However, I'm heavy user and battery gets me by just fine.

With any flagship device, its always a great idea to buy a mobile battery pack. I have one and its been a great investment. Who needs replaceable batteries? I'm not going to charge two batteries at once and it just seems like a major inconvenience, plus, knowing myself, I'll lose them like I lose Bluetooth headsets.

20% left with heavier than usual usage because I switched devices.

    Hope this helps.

Just received my new 32GB pure edition with walnut back 2 days ago. No problems with peeling wood as of yet. I wouldn't worry too much about the reports about peeling wood backs. I understand some people have reported defects and Motorola is usually very good with taking care of warranty matters. If it was a a pervasive and/or extensive manufacturing defect or failure there would be a lot more about that here and Motorola would not still be selling the phones with those options.

As for battery life, I carried a Nexus 5 for about 9 months. My first 2 days with this new Moto X have been better than any 2 days I ever had with the Nexus 5. It has lasted over 18 hours both days and that's with over 4 hours of screen on time each day. That was also during the time I was really working it over setting it up as a new device.

Are there phones with better battery life...sure. It has more than enough stamina for what I need and easily bests the Nexus 5.

Battery, here's what I got from yesterday into today ... you decide....

*21 hours and 3+ hours SOT

*Mostly wifi and some LTE use

*Bluetooth on whole time paired with Moto 360

    *some gps activity

*five Gmail accounts + one yahoo account syncing

*screen brightness = when wifi ON screen brightness is on lowest, when wifi OFF screen brightness on auto.

*not rooted, but still using greenify to manually hibernate some apps

*look at bottom of last picture, shows my average since Oct 25 (when started using GSAM Battery Monitor), average of almost 16 hours and almost 4 hours screen on time.

*I'm still trying to hunt down some wakelocks which are waking my phone cpu up when screen is off, this will give even better battery.

*And check out post #299 here, moto x with lollipop (soon) looks to have better battery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=56598269

Hopefully this helps you one way or another :-)

My Ebony wood backing was peeling up. I have ordered a new one and it should be here this week. However i got a plastic backing on my new Pure Edition. I will report back on the new one when I get it in! I will miss the Ebony though!
