No notifications at all? Broken?

So I don't get notified of new messages in facebook messenger or hangouts?

I have to actually open the app and then I wait a few seconds then it updates and I can view the new messages

I'm not sure if this is for all apps but I noticed today that this was the case when people said I wasn't replying to them promptly

Might check to see if your device is showing meeting in the status bar. Although that would still give you notifications they would just be silent.
