Depends on what you need it for. Class 10 and uhs-1 are both rated for 10MB/s. Uhs-3 is rated for 30MB/s.

For most people uhs-1/class 10 is adequate.

I think the only benefit would be if the phone let's you record 4k straight to the card.

I just don't want the card to end up bogging the Gallery down. I don't keep too many photos - I clean them up after they've been backed up to Google Photos.

As others have pointed out SanDisk micro SD cards are 60% off at Amazon. I may pick up a 32GB one for $11.

Why should you bother, seriously? Take the maximum internal and with time add extra external (y)

I'm strongly considering getting one of the new Moto X's, but my question is how much internal memory will I really need since we can now use SD cards?

For some background, I typically would get as much internal storage as possible because I often PIN my entire music collection (Just over 35 GIG) directly to the phone. From time to time I also PIN movies to the phone. I don't really run that many apps.

Will I be able to PIN this data (Music and Movies) directly to the SD Card or will I need to buy a phone with a larger internal storage capacity for this?

    Thanks!

Most of the time, the answer to that is yes. The caveat is that it really depends on the app you're using. Some apps don't support saving offline files to SD card, but if you have your music/movie collection in your computer and are just trying to watch it on your phone, then yes, having all that in an SD card (sounds like 64GB would be enough for you, but you can go up as high as 128GB if you wish) would be entirely doable.

I use Google Play Music and Google Play Movies to "PIN" my music and movies to my phone. This downloads a copy from the cloud and places them in device storage. I do NOT want to copy my music from my computer as most of the music I want on my device only lives in the Google Cloud.

I know you can "pin" Google Play Music to SD. I think the same is true of movies but I haven't done it for a while.

Thanks! This will probably save me $50.00 when I order. I'm still waiting on a good full review from the fine gentlemen from Android Central. I also want to see what the next Nexus has to offer. I will probably be ordering something new around the November time frame.

So im about to order the Pure Edition here in the next hour or so but im deciding on the storage to actually order. Ive never had a phone that had microsd card support so im not sure how android actually works with it. Is there anything that cant be put or used on the microsd card? Can apps be moved to run off the card to free up device storage.

I guess what im asking, is how does the operating system work with microsd card, and is it worth the $50 to order the 32gb instead of just the base 16gb.

From what others have told me, micro SD cards will hold photos, music, and other files but its a hit or miss with apps. Most apps won't be able to be moved to the card, so be cautious. You only get 10gb or so from the 16gb model so you could put all your music and pictures on your SD and have the whole internal towards games and apps.

This will change once Android M comes around in the fall, but people still have their counts, and its not sure. I myself will go with the 16gb and hope for the android M feature to work with micro SDs.

That's right, marshmallow has native support for sd cards, so it will encrypt it and make it like internal storage. But you don't be able to switch it between phones

Yep, but apparently you can also just use the card for media and not integrate. Encryption can impede performance. I got the "64g" so apps are just on phone. Put parentheses since the storage is missing at least 4gb.

I purchased the Samsung Pro Plus which has a read speed of 95/MB and write of 90/MB which i'm almost certain is faster than the internal memory of most phones.
