Can't get email when on wifi at work?

So, weird thing and this may not even be the right spot, but when I am on my works wifi no emails will come through from my exchange account which is put through gmail. However, I took it off wifi and they came right through for some reason. I was on a Nexus 6 up until a few days ago and I didn't have any issues when connected to wifi. Any ideas?

Could it be some security issue related to your work wi-fi? Can you contact your IT department about it?

Yeah, I guess I could actually. Could be something new they just started doing weirdly enough.
