Is it possible to use the cast screen feature without a Chromecast? Recently just got a new smart TV and was wondering if I would be able to use the screen cast without a Chromecast since both devices are connected to the same WiFi.

On some TVs/bluray players/game consoles you can push YouTube. But for the price of a Chromecast, why not just get one. Your TV should have HDMI cec and will be able to even turn on the TV if you allow it and/out switch over to that input. That is how it worked on mine anyway.

The reason I hate to do that is all my hdmi slots are used up so I would have to plug in cc then unplug when done. Would this require an entirely new setup every time?

I have 2 chromecasts. One in the bedroom and one on the basement TV. I was just hoping to not need one for certain things. I'm switching cable companies and to watch premier league games that aren't in TV I have to watch in either my tablet or phone and cast the screen to the TV. Not a problem to switch the Chromecast from one TV to another but I wouldn't do it unless I had to.

I have a Vizio m series 4k. It doesn't show up as an available option when I hit cast screen on my phone, not sure if there's anything I can do on the TV end to make it work.

Your TV needs to be capable of receiving a wireless mirroring signal such as Miracast or similar. Look in the manual or check the model online for specifications.

If it's not capable, you will need an external device which is capable or receiving a wireless mirroring signal such as a Blu-ray player (which has this feature), Chromecast, Amazon FireStick, etc.
