Welcome to Android Central! You are talking about the microSD card for storage, and not the SIM card for wireless service, right?

The microSD card should still be usable on the new phone, but you won't be able to transfer apps or app data that way. There's also the possibility that the way the card is formatted on your old phone won't be compatible with the new phone (like, for example, if the card is formatted to exFAT, and the new phone only uses FAT32). If that's the case, then you just have to reformat the card for the new phone. It's best to let the phone format the card, if possible.

If you decide to use the new card as adopted storage, it will be formatted.
