What to check when buying a used Moto X Pure?

Buying a used Moto X Pure on Wednesday, and am wondering if there are any embedded diagnostics on that phone.
If not, any utilities you know that might be a good self test?
Are there any copies of ts phone out there? (Got burned on my first Galaxy S5)

Anything you can think of I should check?

Load both a black and white image and check for discoloration in the center of the lower third of the phone: http://i.imgur.com/90U6BMR.jpg

Maybe boot into the bootloader and check the software status to see if it has been modified.

I would bring your SIM and pop it in, then make a test phone call.
Here in Canada, some unscrupulous sellers would declare their phone lost or stolen so they can get a replacement phone through their insurance plan. They would turn around and sell these "stolen" phones. However, the IMEI may have been added to the blacklist, and the phone is no longer usable.
