I'm having a hard time believing that Nougat will dramatically improve battery life as the screen is the big drain and my standby drain isn't too bad. Of course I don't have a SIM card in it either. It sure is nice to hold compared to the Z Force.
Screen on time will NOT increase with Nougat, it can't... software can't make hardware use less power.

The deep sleep/doze of Nougat is better, and it will increase your standby time some.

The best way to increase battery life is to disable all the Moto features, like wave/lift to wake, Moto Display to pulse notifications, etc... that will increase your standby time just as much as Nougat will (I gained 15% over a full day's light use).

The Z Force was amazing, but the Z2 Force seems almost like a mistake (a smaller battery than the Pure, you have got to be kidding me).

I am still waiting, if the original Moto X4/2017 specs hold true with a SD660 and 3800mAh battery, it might be worth it at the $400 price point, if the later rumors of a SD630 and 3000mAh battery are more accurate, I'll skip it and probably either grab something else like the new Axon which should be out soon.

I'm really torn. I just haven't been able to warm up to the Z and the Pixel just doesn't do it for me either at that price point. I have even thought about Samsung but just couldn't pull the trigger. I'm waiting to see what the new X offers and I might go with that. My Pure is still going strong so I will just be patient for now.

I've had almost every Moto phone since the beginning, but I'm really thinking hard about switching to the "red fruit"... the 8 is looking pretty slick, just don't know if I can live without Android.... waiting to see what the new X and the new pixel brings to the table... I've been just soooo anti-fruit since the beginning, not sure if I can pull the trigger though... we'll see...

I had hoped the next Moto X would be worth while when my current MotoX Pure (2016) needs replacing, however looking at the newewst leaked photo's, it is not appealing to me. Which is a shame, as I like the light Moto skin to Android.

I started my smart phone adventure with the fruit, and am glad to say I saw the light when I jumped to the MXPE... Paying ~$800 for a phone that is essentially the same as what I had, with maybe a better camera and/or moving pictures was not worth it to me.

The only two I'm considering is the V30 or Pixel XL 2. I'm near the end of my rope with the Pure

I like the pure but not having recent OS fixes and security patches puts users at an disadvantage. I like the idea of a the X4 but the rumored US spec's (32g/3g) ram and a $400 price tag make it no better in specs than the Zs or the current X3. For $100 less theres the g5 Plus which for $100 less you receive 64g/4g ram and a larger screen to boot. BUT both phones upgrade eligibility beyond N is still unknown. So in theory we could be in the same situation in a year and a half if you choose to stick with motolevona..

Id LOVE a pixel with guaranteed 2 years of OS and security patch updates but i cant afford the entry fee so that leads me to what left in the $300 to $400 range for a phone with a proven track record that runs pure android, same specs as the G5 plus and has guaranteed OS/security patch updates. Sure would be cool if google made available the Android One line in the US...

Oddly enough, I just got a post on my FB feed about the One+ 5.. Haven't looked into it much but I may look at what they have to offer as well. I DO quite enjoy Motorola's take on Android, as it's simple and not bloatware like Samsungs. There don't seem to be many other manufacturer's out there running near pure android.

After a good deal of research, thought and waiting, mine is being replaced next week by a oneplus 5.
The deciding factors between it and the competitors, primarily samsung, was the cost, speed of the phone, storage (got the 128 gig and 8 gig ram version), oxygen OS, the alert slider, dash charging, and oddly enough in part Oneplus's warranty policy (unlocking the bootloader doesn't void your warranty, like *cough* Moto *cough*)

For me the X will be my last Moto device, after the whole nouget update debacle.

I replaced mine 2 weeks ago with the LG V20. As much as I liked my MXPE, it was on its way out. I was experiencing multiple random reboots, Bluetooth issues pairing with my car, WiFi issues at home, and need to charge it several times a day.

I'm happy with the V20, and I'm not missing stock Android, since I use Nova Launcher Prime on all my Android devices anyway.

Well yesterday I replaced my MXPE with an LG V30. These 2 phones are surprisingly very close in size. It was time to let go of the MXPE, sad to finally put it out to pasture. I was looking at the new Motorola phone but none really stood out to me. So far happy with the V30.

Yesterday, i was able to compare 32g/4RAM 1st gen pixel, and a 64g/RAM G5 plus s. The pixel was running 8.0 and was fast, looked good but i just have to stop and think about spending $549 on a phone.

Then comes the G5 plus s. Running 7.1.1, felt good in hand and i liked the metal frame. And this for $300 with more storage and the same RAM...BUT its a motoleveno.....

Do you think it's worth the expense? Many reviewers noted it's performance was significantly sub-par, one review I read actually compared as "equivalent to a $200 Moto phone".

Even though Nougat has improved my Pure X, I ordered the X4. I'll miss the bigger screen but I'm looking forward to Alexa capability and Oreo sooner than never with the Pure X. I'll be listing it on Swappa by the beginning of November so she gets a new home.

I got it yesterday, too early to say anything of substance but it's a beauty, I love the fingerprint reader especially to access apps without having to enter a password. I'm going to miss the X Pure especially now that it has Nougat but it's nice to have the latest from Moto.

Well, I got a Moto Z2 Play and I'm digging it. The battery life is WAY better than the MXPE was, new, with same daily life usage.
I'm really digging the ONE BUTTON NAV feature, too.

ETA, got the wife an X4, last week. It's battery life is great, also.

    ETA, again,
I was stuck between the Z2 Play and the X4, but ended up with the Z2. The 4 GB RAM and 64GB internal storage did it. I've had it just shy of three months and the wife has had the X4 for a month. With what I now know about the two, the Z2 would be an easy choice for me.
I prob won't get any mods, either, but the thinness is awesome in my pocket, especially compared to the MXPE.
The X4 is a decent phone, but a few things bother me:
    A) Only 32GB internal storage which has 13GB taken up by OS files. I've read that it's some doubling of files, in order to make updates smoother.
    B) 3 GB of RAM. The wife has not reported lag issues, but I want more RAM to enable the phone to be able to handle future needs.
    C) The camera has a really bad lag, between pressing the go button and the pic actually being captured. I've side loaded a Google Camera apk and every time I test it, it snaps pics right after the button is pressed, but in real world use, she misses what she is trying to capture. Very frustrating.
    D) Lack of availability of good cases. I like hybrid cases, like Speck or Incipio, with a hard back and grippy sides. There are no major manufacturers cases available for the X4.
    E) X4 is kinda fat in thickness, when compared to the Z2 and I prefer the larger screen on the Z2.

Both batteries greatly out perform the MXPE, even when new. With the same daily usage and charging, I am usually left with at least 50%. The MXPE often required charging, in the evening, in order to make it to bed time.
I am really happy with my Z2 choice. I have been using the ONE BUTTON NAV feature and it's pretty awesome. Sometimes I forget which way to swipe it, when in landscape, using a nav dock and sometimes BACK goes all the way to the home screen, instead of just back one page in the app being used, but overall I like it.
I have rooted it and themed it. Making the backgrounds black is my major motivation for rooting. Since lollipop arrived with all of its white backgrounds and icons I have been a theming junkie. I'll be trying Xposed and Gravity Box, soon, but only for a few tweaks.

I really like tempted glass screen protectors! I think they feel better than a bare screen and they give me security piece of mind. I am using a TG PROJECTOR, to I can't recall which, and it is serving me well. It does not cover the entire screen side to side, but covers enough and the cutouts are accurate.

I have the Sleo snap case for weekend carry and is a great low profile and grippy case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0725...cUvbUpU6078986

I have a Speck Presidio for work days and it's quite grippy.

I also have an Otterbox Commuter for days that require even more protection, but is had a smooth back and is a bit hard to hold on to. I have a GadgetShieldz for a different phone (Z Force I think) that I will add to the back of the Commuter, in hopes of adding grip.
ETA: got the Gadgetshieldz camera and body protectors. I'm not impressed. The sandstone finish seems just as slippery as the Commuter case and the camera protector does not have precise cuts. I reckon they are cheap for a reason.

I have tried this camera protector, but they did not stay applied and are plastic, not glass.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074F...cUvbUpU6078986
I have GadgetShieldz camera films for both phones on their way, also.

I tried this case, before better cases were available and returned. It is cheap and not grippy.

We sold the wife's X4 and she now, also has a US Unlocked Z2 Play. She is liking it, much better than the X4.

I have a 2 year old MXPE that I was very happy with until I dropped it and started to have screen issues and severe battery drain. After some research I decided on a Moto G5S Plus last week from Best Buy on sale. A week in with the G5S and I couldn't be happier, especially with the battery. As I type this I am going on 1 day 13 hours off the charger and am at 21% remaining, way better then I ever got from the MXPE.
