Limits of Android upgrade for Moto X 2013.

Can anybody confirm and share till what extent can we upgrade the Android O.S for our Moto X 2013s??

I've already updated mine to Lemon Pie from KitKat, so how far will I be able to update my Moto X 2013 going down the alphabet??

Also, is it possible to surpass any firmware and hardware limitations for O.S update by rooting your phone??

Please clarify these points. Thank You.

You can update to marshmallow but unofficially by checking in XDA.

You mean to say that now on if i want to update the Android on my Moto X 2013 for Marshmallow and beyond, I'll have to root it or something like that??

Yup and download a ROM from XDA. Motorola made a mistake in stopping supporting the Moto X 2013.

Nothing stays current forever. At least it was supported longer than my Galaxy Nexus
