Google App Searches Suddenly Slow (Fine With Browser)

Searching using the search box on the home screen is suddenly very slow, to the point of useless. Browser is fine. Anyone know why this may be and how to fix it?

Is the Google app up to date? Have you tried clearing the app cache/data for the Google app?

The app is up to date. Just cleared the app cache. Still have the problem. The search doesn't complete - the blue line gets about 1/4 of the way across and stops.

Just realized that the same thing happens when I try to set a new reminder. It freezes before it gets to the reminder info input screen.

You mentioned clearing the app cache -- what about the app data?

Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data?

Clearing data worked, thanks!! Uninstalled and then reinstalled updates, working fine now. Had this phone since 2013 and that's the first time I had to that and it's with a google app.
