App Playback in Car using 3.5 plug instead of BT?

I have a Kenwood FH-X721BT that only supports app playback via the USB for iphones so with the MXPE i have to use BT for app playback. When im fiddling in the garage i'll use the 3.5 mm headphone jack on my nexus 7 for app playback thru a small portable radio with a 3.5 mm audio in jack using a cable. I'm wondering if the same can be done using the phone headphone jack on the front of my FH-X721BT?

Doubtful, because a headphone jack would only be output. You need a Line In/Aux jack.
