I rarely reboot my device so I don't know when this error started happening. Some say it started with the first OS update (September security patch?) for Moto Z Droid/Moto Z Force Droid. For all I know, it could have been there from day one. I didn't think anything of it because I know I didn't modify anything - my bootloader remained locked (oem_locked appears on the fastboot screen).

I noticed that this was causing an issue when Android Pay stopped working after it was updated to no longer work on devices where the bootloader was unlocked. Getting updated to Nougat did not resolve the issue. We got a discussion going on in the Lenovo support forums and after some time, it was suggested that we repair the OS install and for the Droid models, a customer-facing tool is available!

Use the Verizon Software Update Assistant to repair the OS

Prerequisites: Windows or OSX, USB Type A to USB Type C cable (you could probably do C to C if you had a newer Macbook)

    1. Download and install the Software Update Assistant
      Windows: http://www.motorola.com/verizonsoftwareupdatewin
      Mac: http://www.motorola.com/verizonsoftwareupdatemac
    2. Open Software Update Assistant
    3. Connect your Moto Z Droid or Moto Z Force Droid to the computer.
    4. Swipe down the Notification Shade and select the "Software Installation" option.
    5. Wait for the Software Update Assistant to detect your phone.
    6. When your phone is detected, click Restore.
    7. You'll be prompted to choose Erase or Keep Data.
    8. The Software Update Assistant will download the OS image, then install it to the phone. The phone will reboot to the Fastboot menu. Do not disconnect the phone.
    9. When complete, the phone will reboot and you can disconnect it from the computer.

If this is happening on a GSM unlocked model, I'm not sure if there's a application available.

Well, you do have up to date firmware. But try the software repair assistant? http://forums.androidcentral.com/e?l...token=pWvh2bkL

(It's the same app, just using repair assistant.)

Does this solutions also work for the same problem on MOTO G5 or is solely for the MOTO Z?
