Encryption in Moto z

A

AC Question

If you encrypt the Moto z, can you still use the fingerprint to unlock? Or what will it require, pin only? Or work required to sync to the server but they could not tell me if it would work. Thanks!

The phone comes encrypted by default, and the fingerprint sensor works to unlock it. If you enable the option to require a PIN at startup, then it requires a PIN and the fingerprint sensor doesn't work, but only for that initial boot up.

Yeah, the encryption is really just for the turned off & not logged in phone. When you boot up, it has you put in credentials to fulfill the encryption. There are other security measures after that, of course, but the encryption doesn't really do much after you're booted up & logged in.

*edit* Encryption does play a role in security in other areas, like sending & receiving data via some apps, but that's a different encryption than when you encrypt the phone itself.
