Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
The fact that the camera on the G5 Plus has dual autofocus pixels gives me some hope that Motorola is taking the camera complaints seriously.
Even though the G5 Plus lacks OIS, the implementation of basically the same sensor that's in the S7 on the G5 gives me a lot of hope as to what we'll see in the camera upgrade for the 2017 Moto Z line.
Aside from rumors, anyone have an educated guess as to when Motorola will announce the second gen Moto Z's? I would assume summer time.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
I already thought they were taking them seriously when they did the Moto X Pure Edition (third gen) and Moto G (third gen).
I'd expect the flagship Moto Z for 2017 (Moto Z/Moto Z Force) to have a 2017 camera - not a 2016 one. Maybe the second gen Moto Z Play can get away with having the same camera as the Moto G5 Plus, which is likely the same as the Galaxy S7's camera from 2016.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
I am a bit biased when it comes to Samsung's smartphone cameras. I just find them to be the best. I prefer Motorola as my smartphone of choice for just about every other reason (battery life, zero lag, moto actions, etc). For me, if I could have a Samsung-ish camera in a flagship Motorola phone that would be Android perfection.
I'm just always afraid when I hear Motorola saying they've improved their camera with every new phone release, as with the mxpe, Z, etc. Although they went backwards by a year with the implementation of a 2016 sensor that's most likely the same one used in the S7, that sensor is better than anything Motorola has ever used in a smartphone, in my opinion. And so, I remain pretty hopeful about the new cameras in the upcoming Z line.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
Somewhat side topic...does anyone know why Motorola hasn't updated the camera app lately? Not that it needs an update but it has been since September since an update.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
I've been wondering too. No idea though.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
The current Z Force actually has a competent camera, which is a 1/2.4" Sony IMX338, an upgraded version of the IMX230 found in the 2015 Moto X Pure.
The problem is the regular Z. It's not a bad camera, but it does use somewhat dated hardware as the sensor dates back to 2014, a Sony IMX214.

I love the camera on these phones. I also loved the camera on the Moto X pure. Man I loved that phone too

Agreed and the software, for me, crashes a lot and the Moto Camera app sorely needs an update...Been over 8 months since update.

Ya, the lack of updates on the camera app gives me concern about purchasing the next flagship Moto. There are updates that can be made based on thousands of user posts. They haven't responded or updated. Gona be forced to go to the Apple of Android...S8

Doesn't crash for me.

What bugs are there?
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
I'm still rocking my Pure and the camera always works. Well enough to keep me happy lol

Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
I never know when these errors pop up and when they do, I lose the video I was taking:
Attachment 256394
Attachment 256395
I've tried two different phones...I've tried MicroSD storage and on board storage. While I can go a good while without the error, it will come at the more inopportune time and I'll lose my video or not being able to catch the picture I want.
I simply can't trust the Camera on my Moto Z Force Droid.
Re: Moto G5 Plus Camera...2017 Moto Z
Used the video camera for the first time on vacation a couple weeks ago. Had this same error message. Saving to phone, at least I didn't lose the videos I had taken. But when I would go to take more video I got the error message. Close out of the app. Open it back up and then it would work. There are numerous small glitches on this phone that is pushing me away from buying Motorola again (like having to reboot my phone every day so the bluetooth playback doesn't clip).

Yes...I have no real complaint about the quality of the photos and videos on my Moto Z Force Droid. But the reliability of the camera app is not something I want to chance when taking memories with my phone camera. This is why I am holding on to my Pixel XL, even if I'd rather be using the Moto Z Force Droid.
I've opened a forum post on Lenovo's site and no fix: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-...d/td-p/3574037

Doesn't really matter what you call it. Needs to be addressed.
