Moto Z2 Force keeps muting during calls

Love my Z2 Force but lately during phone calls, it keeps muting. The mute button highlights itself and I need to press it to deactivate mute to continue my conversation. (No, I am not hitting the mute button by mistake.) Any suggestions?

Does it happen if the phone is in Safe Mode?

And I was blaming this on my fingers! Mine mutes itself also from time to time.

Mine just started doing this yesterday. Automatic - Mute On as soon as I made a call. I uninstalled the latest app I installed (Walgreens in my case) rebooted and the issue has not returned. I suspect some apps have microphone permission and are interfering with the Mic during calls. It's a theory
