Difference between Moto and Droid?

Love my Maxx. But as I wait for the Moto X+1 I was wondering if there's a basic difference between the Droid line and the Moto line? Do I care if this new upcoming phone is the new Moto or a new Droid?

If this year's releases are anything like last's, then the Droid(s) will be based on Moto X+1 hardware and most of the software. So, different cases, screens, and maybe batteries.

I've seen unsubstantiated rumors that the new X might pack a Maxx-class battery, but no one knows for sure yet.

Are you familiar with the differences between the current Moto X and Droid lineup? There isn't really anything that you can say "the next Droid lineup will have (fill in the blank), and the Moto X+1 won't", aside from Verizon exclusivity. There are several advantages of, say, the current Droid Maxx over the current Moto X, but that doesn't mean anything for sure for the next gen.
