So I got the Droid Turbo 1 64gb on launch day doing the Edge program. I currently have 12 payments left, and I am allowed to upgrade at 75% paid. If I did a flat out upgrade today, I would be required to pay $189.54, and then return my Turbo at the same time. I owe $352.04 to own the Turbo outright, and then would receive $200 as a trade in under the program going on right now I believe.

Now I have an old Galaxy S3 lying around that I would part ways with to get the DT2 - If I am understanding the promotions right now, that phone should be worth $200 as a trade in towards the DT2. Is there any possibility that this $200 would be applied against the balance of my Edge contract? Essentially I am trying to get a DT2 without having to put out any cash. I also have a $50 VZW gift card lying around too.

Any chance anyone has a similar situation or has any advice on how to make this upgrade work?

I think the 200 for an old phone trade applies to a new line activation. I think. So you would have to activate a new line To get promotion.

I traded in a very antique Blackberry and was given the 2 bill discount. I have been a Verizon customer for over 18 years.

Minimally, you have to pay to the 75% and turn the phone in. I was in this situation too, so I decided to just pay the phone off, and keep it as a backup, as I don't carry phone insurance. I then used an old blackberry with a cracked screen as the trade-in and got $200 bill credit. I asked about getting it as a gift card, but for existing customers they would only do a bill credit. As for applying it to the outstanding balance on the phone, I dont see how that could be done. The only options are to pay it off in its entirety on the website. Maybe they could do something in the store, I dont know.

So in theory, since I only owe 189, I could pay that amount, and then trade in my old S3, get a $200 bill credit, and actually come out relatively even (minus the tax I'd have to pay on the new phone with the payments). That's not half bad, or maybe I go find some old cracked blackberry on craigslist for $20, keep my S3 as the backup, and just get the new turbo that way.

Let us know what happens! I owe $179 or something to be 75% paid up. I've got some old school phones ready to go. Please update!

If you only pay to 75% point, then you will have to turn that phone in, in addition to turning in another phone to get the $200. The only way you get to keep your current phone is to pay it off completely.

Yes, it's a bummer I know. I thought that's what you were going to do? Pay off to 75%, return T1, turn in an old school POS, and get $20 difference back towards T2?

Close. I paid my T1 off 100% so that I could keep it as a backup. Then turned in an old POS for the $200. My T1 is now been factory reset, and in the closet for safe keeping in case I break/lose my T2. I used to buy the insurance for the first year of the phone, but that is now a joke. costs $10/month, but the deductible is now up to $150 or more for these phones. It was a better move for me to just pay off the phones, and keep them.

But what you suggest will work. I thought you were thinking you would keep your old phone.

Shoot, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that I was commenting to the wrong reply. Marlin23 was mentioning what I just talked about. Whoopsy, my bad!

But yes, it is always a good idea to keep your old phone for backup. Even though it's shatterproof, it isn't 2 year old "terrible 2's" proof! Ha!

use your Galaxy s3 to open a new line that will give you a $300 gift card. use that gift card to pay off your T1 in two months when your balance is below $300. then cancel your T1 line. This is exactly what I did and got a $300 gift card for an S3 mini.
