questions about multi-media messages

Is there any way to keep picturea that people send you in a text message from turning into a slideshow? My old phone didnt do this. Now everytime someone sends me a text message with pictures in it it puts them in a slideshow that i cant do anything with but look at them.

Switch to a different messaging app. Google messages doesn't do slideshows. (Also, if you tap the photo in the slideshow, controls will show up, and you can pause, use the forward and back buttons to look at other photos, etc.)
