I was using the Steelie magnetic mount for my Droid Turbo 2, but I didn't like the wart on the back of my phone case (Casemate Tough Case)

I was in my local BJ's Warehouse Club and they had a display for the Scosche Magic Mount and I found it intriguing. I took my phone out of it's case and it held firmly using the Qi recharging coils already inside of the phone. I don't use Qi, and since I had the Steelie wart on the back of my case, my phone wouldn't charge wirelessly anyway. I bought the mount and put it in my car. I removed the wart, but with the case on, there was too much material in the way to properly hold the phone down.
I then tried no case at all - once again it held firm, including pot holes and sudden stops. BUT - it seems the magnet may be a little too strong as it appears to effect the phone in negative ways. I did some "Ok google now" questions and it seem to freeze up after the third question, removing it from the holder "Unfroze" it. Bluetooth seemed to work fine, but the screen would go black in the middle of a call, as it usually stayed lit during the entire call. With the alleged toughness of the Droid Turbo 2, a case shouldn't be necessary. I also like how the Scoshe allows you to just plop the phone on it without having to line it up like the Steelie did. Plus - while the Steelie worked fine with my old MotoX, the added bulk of the Droid Turbo 2 had me constantly readjusting the phone as it drooped or tilted on the ball.

Anyway - my solution was to put the large steel plate between the two layers of the the Tough Case and use it that way. I can't use Qi, but everything else works glitch free, even NFC.

Soooo - in conclusion, if you carry your phone caseless, use Qi and want a cool phone holder that requires you to do nothing to your phone, the Scosche works but with a few glitches.
If you use a case, the Scoshe mount allows for super ease of use with no special attachments or clips, but, won't let you use Qi.
Any additional questions, let me know

Looks nice, although I prefer the AirDock as I can charge my phone in the car while driving.

Wasn't even aware of the Air Dock.... Damn, I could integrate that into my dash. (As I did with the Scosche)
Anyway - more research shows that the CaseMate Clear will work without the steel plate inside as it is a single layer case. So - you can have Qi, and a dashmount without clips or warts while still in a case.

Great knowing the phone basically has a built in magnet. I just ordered some cheap mounts from aliexpress thx to you guys. We'll see if they work. I use QI charging all the time plus I don't use a case so I'm hopeful they work good. Also, would there be any issues using one of these mounts in combination with the phones magnet, such as potential hardware failures or something along those lines?

I don't see it cause any real issues, but it seemed to confuse a couple of sensors like the magnetometer or gyro

The phone doesn't have a built in magnet, but it does have enough ferrous material (the wireless charging coils) to hold an uncased or very thin cased phone, to a magnet. Like I said, my Casemate Naked works without the metal plate, but my double thick Casemate Tough needs the plate.
I will test my wifes Body Glove case over the weekend and post the results. I dont have any gel (TPU) cases, but I am betting they will work without the metal plate being needed.

Needing to use the plate means you can't wirelessly charge - everything else works fine

I use the Schosche magnetic mount in my car with the metal attachment attached to the in side of my Incipio Dual Pro case and it works GREAT. It's the best car mount I've ever had because it's strong and doesn't obstruct any of the buttons or take any effort to mount, just slap it up there. I tried it "naked" (sans case and metal mount) and it seemed to work too.
