Wifi is killing Droid Turbo 2 Battery-picture1.png

For some reason my wifi is killing my battery
After a full day of use 20% of the battery is killed by the wifi?
Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

    What does FDR stand for?
Factory Data Reset. Takes phone back to new deleting EVERYTHING. Last resort option.

I reset mine after updating to Marshmallow and my battery rocked for a few days! Now, back to all day not rocking so much. Ha!

You're not alone. I FDR and at first it helped for a day or so. Now WiFi is always on even though I have it selected off. Barely getting 12 hours out of this phone!

Dang, my WiFi is ridiculous too!! Just looked at my battery stats as I'm all of a sudden at 19%. My WiFi consumption is 18% usage and I have been at work all day not on WiFi. I mean, I always leave it on, but have never noticed that drainage until your post! What gives!?

Curious, try turning off wifi then check stats. I have an issue when I have wifi turned off yet battery stats shows wifi on all the time using battery. Very frustrating.

Same problem here too. Started yesterday using about 20% even though it was turned off coz I was at work. Today it's at about 7% but my phone is still lasting all day with about 5-6 hours SOT.

I will do everything normal routine tonight and turn off WiFi before I go to work. Then I'll post my results this time tomorrow of the difference if any.

Make sure you turn off scanning always available. It's in location in the settings, top three dots. I turned the wifi scanning on a few days ago and it was in my battery stats like you guys. I turned it off but the next day it was still in my stats, so i rebooted and did a cache partition wipe, and it is not in my stats today. Looks like there's a bug where the scanning may stay on even after turned off until a reboot is done.

OK, will do. I also disabled the Bluetooth always on as well.

It's not in the Wi-Fi area. You have to go to Settings>Location then hit the 3 dots in the upper right. That will reveal "Scanning" and then the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning.

Alright, here's the deal with today. I disabled the Bluetooth and WiFi always scanning setting along with a cache wipe this morning. One difference I noticed is that my GPS kept asking me to enable WiFi always scanning. I understand that I turned it off in settings of location, but why would it need that? Stupid question, does WiFi use GPS at your house, McDonald's, etc?

    No WiFi stats today.

Location services wants to use wifi location triangulation as well as cell tower triangulation in addition to (or instead of) the actual gps radio when possible. In part to give assist (it takes a while to locate three satellites) and in part because it uses less battery power.

I just turned my phone off then back on a bit later & no WiFi is showing in the battery stats screen. If it does come back then I'll turn off the always scanning thing.

WiFi is still using my battery even after turning off the scanning option. Can still get through a while day with it though but don't want WiFi there.

(How does a mobile site made for Android have problems in chrome)

Anyways, I accidentally deleted the last post. I am having this problem too. But upon further investigation it seems to be a marshmallows glitch and it's reporting falsely and not actually using battery. Which makes sense since I'm at about the same amount of battery I always am at the end of the night yet it says it used over 500mah extra than whenbit says it doesn't.

I tried what the article said... Clear my network settings and cache.

After a few days of turning the always scanning bit off WiFi is now not in my battery stats at all. Happy with this but now Google services is using 12% or more. How can I lower this?

I am bumping this because I have WiFi turned off and yet my battery stats have a solid green line showing it is on and there IS noticeable battery drain. I want to try a couple of things stated in here. I do not believe the green line is a "false positive" as essentially addressed by someone in here.

I also have an app that does the auto turn on/turn off of WiFi when cell phone tower triangulation shows I'm near a known WiFi source I use (such as home). But being new to the Droid Turbo 2 after the original DT died on me (two weeks?) and now on Marshmallow, I wonder if the app (WiFi Matic produced by GZ Systems, last updated Jan. 2016) just isn't set up for Marshmallow yet. I've faithfully used this app for years and never had issues until the DT2 upgrade so I'll probably have to contact the app maker and advise it basically doesn't work anymore.

Anyway... I use the DT2 the same way as my DT1, nothing has changed. But that app saved battery power for me on the DT1 and doesn't work for the DT2 so I have to manually turn WiFi off. And I'm the type that I come home and forget to turn WiFi on and waste data on my plan. (I have a low data plan because with WiFi, I don't need high data.)

If WiFi isn't killing my battery, something unique to the DT2 and/or Marshmallow is. No factory reset needed on this new phone; everything was fresh before I customized my phone to replicate my DT1 which had Lollipop.

Either way, WiFi has been noticed as a serious contender for being the problem. Whatever it ultimately is, I want it fixed.
