    Hi all.

Motorola Droid Turbo. Trying to back up the data to Google Drive in order to import on a new phone (Samsung S20+).

I've followed the instructions via the link below but nothing shows up in my Backups folder on Google Drive. I've tried 2 different Drive accounts. I've tried On and Off Wifi. I've tried turning the phone off and on again. I've made sure sync was on and refreshed. I've turned backup off and on again. Still nothing.

Any advice please as to why it's not backing up or better options to backing up the data please? I have backed up the contacts to Google by exporting vCard to Drive, downloading to PC and then importing to Google Contacts.

    Thank you for any advice.

    HI, welcome to AC!
Once you sign into your Google account with same Gmail account on the new phone everything should be there, nothing to import

Hi mustang7757. Thank you for your response.

The Droid backup file is not listed in the "Backups" folder on Google Drive. It just says, "No Backups". Are you saying that the backup data from the old Droid will still show up on the new phone despite no Backup files on Drive? Thanks.

"off" as in my new phone? Yes, I'm not transferring the data yet. Just backing up the data from Droid to Google Drive.

If I'm understanding correctly, at least according to the following link, I can back it up first without putting it on the new phone.

Welcome to Android Central! What version of Android is that phone running? A number of the backup features require Pie or higher: https://support.google.com/android/answer/2819582?hl=en

In the old days, the Backup option only backed up certain account and settings information, so you may just be stuck with that.

Mostly going have doucuments, pictures, sms, contacts going to new phone, settings most likely not due to different phones and probably some app data.

I checked my Google Drive backups, and did find the last backup for my Nexus 7 (also running Marshmallow), so at least that means it should still work. But the only things listed in the backup are Apps (which probably just means basic app settings, not the app data) and Device Settings. Non-Google Contacts and other things might not back up to Google under Marshmallow.

Just want to follow up. Last night as I was doing research, I read that the backup may not show up immediately (basically that it's an auto backup and not a manual immediate backup). Sure enough the backup did show up this morning in Drive.

Drive says that the backup consists of "Apps" and "Device Settings". Exactly what you had mentioned on your backup. It specified a quantity of Apps which seems low compared to the Apps that are on the phone. I'm wondering if the Apps that are backed up are either only DL'ed Apps or either only factory installed Apps.

And if as you suggest the App data may not be saved then I guess I should find a 3rd party App that will some sort of full back up.

Not all app developers take advantage of the Google Backup feature, so the number you see probably represents the apps that do.
