DROID TURBO: Apps OK to disable
- I do use Message+... So are you saying with location agent on it always pings location even if you have location turned off in the message+ settings menu? So which one are you saying saves battery by disabling?... Also Typed the one twice bit meant to ask about VZWAVSService to... What does it do, and is it safe to disable?
Basically, I have Verizon Login, VZWAPN, and VZWWAV on, and Verizon Location Service disabled as that was the potential battery drain.KPMcClave likes this.11-21-2014 03:03 AMLike 1 - Thank you for the list.
Any idea which of these got rid of the fancy clock on the home screen with the weather and such?11-22-2014 12:01 AMLike 0 - IIRC, one can tap and hold on the clock until it unsticks and drag it to the 'remove' text that appears. I did it by accident when messing with the phone after getting it.11-22-2014 12:56 AMLike 0

- Anybody have any idea what "Motorola Checkin" is, or what it does, and if it can be safely disabled?12-03-2014 12:05 AMLike 0
- Messaging + works fine with Verizon Location disabled. That saves battery because it always pings. Vzwwav I believe has to do with sending sound recordings. It is safe to disable if you aren't going to use that feature. I noticed location agent appearing alot in my location settings where it shows what location services are in use and the type of battery drain.

Any idea if this is something I disabled inadvertantly, or if the app simply doesn't allow for permanent personalization of contacts (which seems dumb). The alternative seems to be that I have to save every discussion to maintain the settings.12-06-2014 12:48 PMLike 0 - This doesn't seem the perfect spot to ask this, but since it may have to do with something I disabled, I'm wondering if Messages+ is not supposed to save your personalization settings (Tones, Backgrounds, Bubbles Colors) for individuals? I have found it only saves them temporarily for the current discussion with a Contact. If I delete that conversation, the next (new) discussion with that person is in the default style (which is saved with my personalizations, at least).

Then select any of the options under the heading "Customize All". This option controls the personalization settings for every conversation. I assume you pressed the hamburger menu while in a select conversation which gives you similar personalization options, but is under the heading "Customize Conversation". This will override the default personalization settings for a particular convo. Changing the same type of settings from the screen that displays all of the convos will be the default settings for every convo that isn't individually personalized.
So, it wasn't related to anything I had disabled in Apps. Sorry for the detour.12-07-2014 09:24 PMLike 0 - Thanks for the reply, but I knew that stuff. My question was about personalizing individual contacts and having those stick. I got my answer after my earlier post. Message+ only allows for personalization of conversations and not of contacts. I think that's just dumb, so I uninstalled and am back to Textra. Hopefully they add contact personalization so I don't have to save my interactions in order to save my settings. I did like the app otherwise andf would use it if not for this.

So, all of your conversations with individuals would have to be one long saved conversation to keep formatting (it may be possible to just save a single "placeholder" message but I'm not sure...and that's still dumb).
It's still a nice enough app. Overall default personalization works fine. I see no value added in conversation personalization and it just makes me notice even more that contact personalization isn't there.12-08-2014 12:12 AMLike 0 - That's exactly right. If you and I were texting and I set personalized tone, background and bubble colors for you, they would only stay if I didn't delete that current conversation.

I went through and disabled several of the apps listed here. Now my calendar icon (the one that came with the phone) does not show the date. Which app would have controlled that?12-09-2014 07:17 PMLike 0

- I started using nova launcher with an icon pack, and the calendar icon that came with the pack is different. So I guess it's a moot point now. Thanks for the replies anyway.12-10-2014 08:11 PMLike 0
- Are you ABSOLUTELY sure about this !!!???...I am a BRAND NEW S.Phone User and have No prior knowledge or expertise on these matters,...but - your answer addresses my biggest dillema ! ( sorry - again - new user,...i dont know where it is going, Cloud,..Whatever...)...and NOT affect other apps or operating system at the same time ?12-16-2014 10:53 PMLike 0
- I too really like Message +! It's the first Verizon App I've actually used and it is very well done! I enjoy the customization aspect of it a lot too.12-17-2014 08:20 AMLike 0
- I have recently installed Textra to replace the stock text messaging app.
I was viewing a picture in my gallery and selected to share it via text.. the picture opened in my stock text messaging app and, since I have selected Textra to be my default, the picture couldn't be sent.
How do I disable the stock text messaging app?
What all do I need to disable in the All Apps list?02-06-2015 06:08 PMLike 0 - I have recently installed Textra to replace the stock text messaging app.

Yeah, I just noticed that. While viewing the picture within the gallery, I clicked the share icon (line connecting three bold dots in the form of a lesser than sign) and selected to share using Textra. Worked. Just wish the default messaging app option would disappear from the options list since it isn't the default anymore.
I did check the settings - more and Textra is set as the default.02-06-2015 07:09 PMLike 0 - Thanks for the reply!
