looks like it might be an issue with the QHD display, hopefully a fix will come soon

I doubt QHD display issues will be prevalent in the near future being that the nexus 6 rocks one

can you sideload without rooting? also is there a tutorial on sideloading?

No rooting necessary. All you have to do is go to security and screen lock in settings. Check to allow installation from unknown sources. Then find the Microsoft office apk online. Download it and the download will appear in the notification bar. When its done, just tap it and tell it to install and bingo! Its because its not optimized for qhd displays. But it looks and works perfectly fine

Microsoft Office for Android is in the works. It hasn't been updated in Play store yet
