I know myself and at least one other person are experiencing this, but wanted to see if others are as well.

WeatherBug is fine when initially running in the background, but as soon as it is opened and checked (I typically view the radar and other locations as well) it starts drinking battery life, as in being allocated for 60%+ of the total app battery drain (and increasing the total app usage percentage by 15% or more). Force stopping it is the only way that seems to stop this from happening.

No issues. I've been using Weather bug elite for a few years now .. Have you tried clearing the cashe for the app or uninstalling it and then re-installing it .

I've been using the free version for years as well, never an issue until the last update. I have cleared the cache and such, but just like the force stop it only helps temporarily.

I had this problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Problem didn't go away, but the next day it was back to normal battery consumption, which is negligible. My advice would be to uninstall, reinstall and give it a day.

There are so many great weather apps for Android (AccuWeather, Weather Underground, Weather Timeline, Yahoo Weather, atmosHere Weather, Arcus) that if I had an app that wouldn't stop draining battery - I'd be using another app in a heartbeat.

I have used WeatherBug for years & never had this issue until yesterday. With the storm here in the midwest, I checked the radar 3 or 4 times during the day. My battery drained far more than usual for a Sunday at home and when I looked at why, WeatherBug was the culprit. Must be something in the latest version and a particular set of actions.

I have not experienced the battery drain at all on my favorite weather app, weather bug elite. Just had a snow and ice storm blow though here this weekend, lots of checking radar and alerts. No noticeable battery drain. No problems.

I had a similar problem awhile back where the 1Weather widget was killing my battery. So, I switched to another app too (NOAA).

Well, bye bye WeatherBug. Have tried everything. Still, as soon as I open the app, it starts sucking down the battery. Time to find a new weather app.

Sorry to hear that. I found that I didn't like the UI and/or widgets and/or icons of the other weather apps. Let us know which one you select.

Try eWeatherHD. By far, the best weather application that I've used. It beats everything out there as far as I'm concerned.

I've been noticing the Weatherbug battery drain also. They recently updated the app, which may have something to do with the background drain.

No thanks. For something like weather, free apps only.

Trying AccuWeather first, will see how that goes. Used TWC on my old phone, but app was buggy. Not a huge fan of the AccuWeather widgets, but will try for a day or two.

Emailed WeatherBug to report the issue. Got an email back the next day, telling me to clear the cache. Told them I did that, force stopped, cleared cache partition, and uninstalled/reinstalled and the issue kept popping up. They emailed me back and told me not to shut the screen off when the app is open because it will still drain the battery, and that should fix my problem (#facepalm). I told them that was not the issue, and it was probably a bug. That was around noon today. Haven't heard back from them.

That said, AccuWeather isn't impressing me. Widgets stink and its a clunky UI with stupid uncustomizable screens I don't want. Will start searching for others. If anyone has a rec for a free app you like, do share.

Weather Underground is free with ads and has great info, local weather stations, and great maps. If you want a really nice app that gives great information and can live without maps and can afford 99 cents, weather timeline is a great app. It's my favorite weather app these days.

I'll say it again. I've been through all the weather apps and of them all, I'll only use eWeatherHD and Weather Underground. Anytime I've had an issue with eWeatherHD, I'd email the development and within hours get a response. Within days, sometimes a week or so, I'd get a corrected app.

This is the main screen that I use. It shows me everything I need to know in a glance. There are many other screens and a bunch of widgets, although I don't use them. I have no affiliation with this company or the developer. It's simply the best weather app I've ever used, so I like to recommend the product.

No problem with WB. I have used it for years. I like many of the other weather apps, but the main reason that I use WB is because there is a WB station at our local school. The next closest weather station is 20 miles away. I have always found WB to be reliable and accurate.

I downloaded Weather Underground, and I like it a lot. Smooth UI, all the features I like, and there is a crowd source station literally in my neighborhood! The widget options are so-so, and the lack of being able to keep track of other locations stinks. Otherwise, liking it a lot!

WB worked great for me too for years. But, with the last update, the battery drain (even with our massive batteries) is unacceptable. The fact that the company sent me a couple 'no duh' fix attempts and then ignored me isn't ideal either. If they fix the bug, maybe I'll revisit them down the road.

Its cool that you like it, but my point is with so many free weather apps/sources out there, no reason to throw money at one for an extra feature or two (or to just get rid of ads), IMO.
