Service notification under Lollipop

I'm staying in very poor service area and constantly get notice of "loss of service" then "Verizon wireless". This can happen every few seconds and there is no way to shut service notifications off. Drains battery so I put in airplane mode overnight. Called tech support and they suggested I turn off advanced calling and they also reset my phone but the notifications just keep coming. Phone is running Lollipop and has had a factory reset. All else works great. Anyone experiencing this problem?
