    Hi all,

My girlfriend just got a verizon droid turbo today. It has kitkat 4.4.4 on it, and it's asking to update the OS. Based on the fact that the phone seems to perform just fine as is, I'm loath to take the chance on breaking stuff that isn't broken now. I have debloater on my computer, and I have successfully removed some stuff from her phone with it. However, like I said I would like to disable OTA operating system updates. What thing(s) do I need to disable with debloater to accomplish this? I did a search and was not able to find the answer. Is rooting the phone the only way to do this on the turbo?

I believe rooting is the only option.

Jeez, I hope not. I'd read that before, but I was thinking that perhaps that was the consensus before the debloater program came out. So, out of all the stuff I can access with that program, there's really nothing I can disable that will stop OTA updates?

Just take the update. Lollipop has been nothing short of outstanding for me and I wouldn't switch back even if I had the option to do so.

Here's the moto stuff I disabled and the update was stopped. This is a replacement phone from vzw. It came with KitKat so I called them and they advised me to disable several things. So far it's worked. I will stay on KitKat until they get battery issues worked out.

I would just take the update, the 5.1 works fine on the turbo, we skipped the 5.0 because of issues. I did the factory reset on mine afterwards, but not on my other one and disnt have problems w either one

Here's a screen shot of battery life today. Been working outside and didn't use much today but this is why I will stay on KitKat. Hopefully M will be good for battery life. I also noticed my signal was weaker. For example on KitKat I get around - 100 to - 105. On lp I was - 115 to - 120. I live in a weak 4g area.
If you have a strong signal I bet lollipop is much better on battery life.

Just to clarify what mobrules means by battery issues...

If I recall correctly he uses Tasker to turn certain things off due to his weak signal area. Lollipop doesn't allow this currently.

Battery is generally fine and the same if not better for some.

Yes exactly. If someone has a strong 4g signal the battery life should be fine. For me I went from 48+ hrs to 12 hrs. That's a killer for me. But my situation isn't everyone's.

It's interesting that signal was weaker on Lollipop for you. I have not noticed a change at all but as I've said many times experiences do tend to vary.

Glad you were able to get a KK phone. It's amazing how much we rely on our devices on a daily basis. My phone almost never leaves my side even when I'm at home.
