Get rid of/Prevent Auto update??

I upgraded my Droid X to gingerbread when the first update was released, and it pretty much rendered my phone useless. I was able to sbf back to Froyo, and my phone works fine, I did that a couple of months ago. Now, however, my phone has downloaded the newest update and keeps prompting me to install it. I can postpone the install, but after a certain amount of time, that message comes up again. Is there any way to disable this?

I believe there were threads on this back when the GB update first came out. People were using titanium or other apps to freeze the updater. Maybe take a trip in the wayback machine to see exactly what the method was although I'm fairly sure that was it.

Those apps require the phone to be rooted it looks like, mine is pure stock.
