Activation Question

So I ordered the Droid X but in order to do so I had to sign up for a 1-year extra line on my account ... It's coming today. Here is my question:

You used to have to activate the phone on the new line and wait 24 hours until I could activate another phone on that line.

Can I simply activate the droid on the new number, switch right away to a regular phone, and move the Droid to my existing line? Or am I going to have to wait 24 hours to do so?
