I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has had the same experience.

I had leaked 2.2 Froyo installed with no issues. When I discovered 2.2 Official could be rooted, I flashed my DX back to stock 2.1 using RSD Lite. Right away with 2.1 it seemed the phone was running better (scrolling and transitioning much smooth and more responsively). I then installed 2.2 Froyo Official OTA.

One of the moderators here strongly discourages using ATK and I decided to try not installing it to see what a day without it would be like. Normally with leaked 2.2 and ATK I was getting about 10-12 hours use before the phone battery bar turned orange for less than 20%.

Yesterday I went ALL day into the evening (over 12 hours) and the battery bar was still around half and green. I used my phone extensively (calls, sms, Facebook, Foursquare, etc). I work full time AND attend college therefore I have a huge social circle between work and school. I am rather thrilled with the phone since the flash and upgrade.

I am not a Droid tech guru, but it I suspect flashing the phone may have wiped away something that was causing the processor to be taxed more and drain the battery. I am inclined to encourage all those with battery issues to try flashing your phone.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone with the same experience?

I have found that a full wipe and reload helped me with my battery life on my Droid 1. I never use Task Killers.

I was lucky to get 8 hours before it turned orange. I had dowloaded battery meter to check my percent and before was at 40% or less by noon, and after taking it off the charger at 6am this morning, I just checked and I'm still above 90% a little after 11am. I did install ATK before my update because a friend recommended it. We will see what its like after 5pm when I get out of work.

    Coltsbr,

I am willing to bet a wipe and fresh install will replicate my experience in your Droid.

I am about to change my opinion about task killers. I am on my second day without ATK and my phone is chugging away strong.

It could be just the removal of the ATK that is helping your battery life. I stoped using the auto-kill feature of ATK after a couple weeks and noticed good improvements in my battery life. The theory behind this is that the ATK kills your app but then either the system restarts the app or you open it again which uses more battery power then if the app sat in memory using no power. If ATK is killing all your different social apps and you keep restarting them then that might be what is killing your battery life. Normally I wouldn't consider social apps as a major battery drain because there is no streaming data, no constant GPS syncs, and not a major display usage or processor usage.

I do think 2.2 is an improvement in battery life but not the difference that you are seeing.

I think I will try that this weekend. What is the best procedure to wipe the device and fresh install?

I never had ATK before yesterday but I was getting such bad battery life before I figured it could not hurt to try it. But I will give it a shot without it and see how that goes.

    Thanks for the info

What does "flashing" the phone mean? Thanks.

I think that means to wipe the phone free and clear of anything and reload all of your info on a clean slate and start fresh.

Thanks. I see how you would reload your email accts, apps, things like that. But how would I get my contact list back? I had it transferred in from my Blackberry when I got the Droid. I've since wiped my blackberry and sold it.

I would just use back up assistant, free download from verizon on your device. That's what I used when I switched over.
You will be able to re download allof your contacts back into your device.

Great, let me know how it goes. I'm going away for the weekend and was going to try this after I get back.

How are you going to wipe the phone? Are you going to use the "Factory Device Reset" option?

I have never rooted or used leaks. I have had a task killer on since day one. I have noticed since changing to 2.2 I have to charge my battery twice a day instead of once. So I have taken the plunge and wiped my phone and got rid of the task killer. We'll see if that does the trick.

I don't know. I was still waiting for someone in another thread to tell me how to do that lol.

I'm not sure I'm going to do this right away. So far, VZW hasn't pushed the update to my phone, and I'm not necessarily in a rush to get it. Setting everything up again the way I want it will be time consuming, and I'm hoping that there will be an update to fix some of the bugs I've seen reported sometime in the near future. Right now I'm just mainly trying to make sure I know what to do and how to do it when the time comes. If they push the update to my phone, I'll probably go ahead and accept it. Honestly, though, I don't have any complaints about 2.1, other than battery life.

I did a OTA of 2.2 and have experience great results fro several days now. After it loaded and restarted i did a battery pull (Could just be left over sentiments from my BB days!) and things have been working beautifully. I don't use ATK's and even thought I dont have any stats to share, I personally feel that my speed and battery life has vastly improved over 2.1.
    For what its worth!

I really did not have any problems at all with the update at all. Other than it getting stuck on the 'M' after the reboot. I've used it all day and my battery it at 70% after 13 hours of use. That's very impressive I think. I would say go for it.

its going to take a little longer for the first boot.

and also flashing is a term for installing a new rom. it has absolutely nothing to do with wiping a phone. wiping a phone is wiping a phone or factory reset.

    flashing is flashing an image.

One of the best ways to back up your contacts is to save them all in your Gmail account. Do that once, and you can automatically have them on your next Android phone, even if you switch carriers.
