I believe it's due to chat signing in every time you open the app. Has anyone uninstalled it and found they have better battery life?

It is a combination of that and sync frequency. Its just one more thing to have to sync.

You could always set the sync refresh to a longer interval. Or you could set it to never sync and just manually refresh it when you open the app.

Im sure its a placebo effect youre experiencing, the battery life youd gain from uninstalling facebook is null.

Well the syncing may help but I think the chat being continually connected is also a factor. If you could set it to not automatically signing into chat I would probably use it

Does the social networking stock app notify you of things other than status updates? Like facebook messages and being tagged in a photo?

Not a placebo affect. I uninstalled FB app, and my battery is lasting all day, rather than the four hours before. Let see, right now it is 12:00 PM and I would have to have been plugged in already, but since I've uninstalled FB app, I'm still well above 70% battery.

    Droid X, not rooted.

Ya I had my buddy uninstall it and he uses his all day so he should be able to give a good indication. I definitely have better battery life now.

The problem isn't that it automatically signs you into chat. The problem is that if you sign into chat through the app, you cannot sign out of it through the app. I open the Facebook app all the time, but it never logs me into chat. Why not? Because I don't open that part of the app. Anytime I've ever opened chat in the app, the only way I've been able to sign out of chat is by doing so through the actual Facebook website. If I don't open chat in the app, then I can use the app without ever being signed in for chat.

Log out of the app and back in and don't open chat. Then have someone send you a chat message
