GB this Friday - latest rumor

Your profile shows that you joined AC in Nov 2009, so I will assume you have had an Android device since the Droid 1, probably.

Tell us, when has an update EVER came on the day out was first rumored? There are always delays. It is coming, no need to try to spread FUD.

He is here to get his kicks! Pay no attention to him, it only spurs him on.

let's cut out this back and forth stuff and get things back on topic. i would prefer not to lock what was a perfectly calm discussion. most of us have been through the update process before, we all know how this stuff goes

and things could be worse, remember. just ask anyone who owned a fascinate a few months ago

Actually I get sick of the threads with rumors by guys who pretend that they have some inside information and post redundant remarks about how the next update is friday then sunday then monday. I thought I would have a little fun. Sorry if it got personal.

It's all good! We are all here because we share a common interest. Some of us may be a little more exuberant when it pertains to certain topics, and that is ok.

I believe we are getting Gingerbread, but not because of this.

Did you read the article you linked to...specifically the 4th paragraph? It says a fix on the server-side is already coming out that will patch the flaw for all Android versions with no software update (read: Gingerbread) necessary.

Not really...

From the article:

"Today, Google started rolling out a server-side patch that addresses the issue for all versions of the Android OS. The update is global and automatic, requiring no software update on the user end. Google expects the rollout to be completed and affecting all devices worldwide within the week."

Server side fix..no phone change needed....

Anyone getting an error message when clicking update? Go to " Settings" "About Phone" "System Updates" Get message that "NEW UPDATE FOUND" but when you click you get an error 81635SYD Then auto reboot?? Anyone?

Nope. I get the usual " Your device is up to date."

And since Google only shows one result for [android 81635SYD] I don't think many people will.... :p

OK, its well known fact that you can't be on custom rom to get ota.. but what about root? If the phone is factory, with just the z4root done, will it load (I'm sure killing root in process) or do you have to unroot it first?

Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk

It will load, it will just take away root when it's done.
So there is no need to unroot to get Gingerbread whenever it comes out?
According to P3Droid we should be expecting the update VERY soon. he said that his ninja source also informed him that it will be wise not to do the OTA if you want to continue being rooted.
If we do the OTA update (while rooted), how easy will it be to re-root?

If you update when rooted it will just automatically remove the root.No need to unroot unless you want...

You will have to wait for XDA or someone to find a way to root after the official update..

I'm a member of the Motorola Owners User Groups. Just got an email invite to pre-view the GB update.

No word on WHEN it will be out, but if it is the same as Froyo, we should have the OTA update in less than a week, and then a week or so later it will go live for everyone else.

Of course, if it is like Froyo, someone will post it here for the rest of us. ;-)

I am guessing that the GB update will only be for the X and not the X2?
Truly ignorant here but why would the update be different?
Thanks
