Hey guys, I am seriously considering the Droid. I took a quick look at it today at Best Buy, and I like it. Can a current owner please tell me what the screen is made of? I am hoping glass so that it will not scratch easily.

Also, if there is anyone who owned a Palm Pre, and now owns a Droid, can you please compare the phones, and give your opinion of which is better?

Thanks for the help guys, and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

I had the Pre. I eventually got rid of it and went back to BB because I couldn't deal with Sprint service. The Pre was a great phone, very fluid OS, nice compact size. The Pre requires you sync ALL facebook information or NONE vs the droid where you can sync just the contacts you have in your phonebook as well.

Also, the droid screen is RIDICULOUS, super bright and wonderful. The OS is just as fast, if not much faster than the Pres. You cannot even compare the App stores since Android is much better. I would say the keyboards are comparable... Neither is the best, but neither is horrible.

The pre has one screen which is not customizable nearly as much as the droids. Both have subtle notification bars. The Droid also loads email that looks perfect 1000x faster than the Pre. The browsers are comparable. Biggest thing I've found...You won't need a touchstone/charger at home/work/everywhere with the droid. The battery life is crazy good. I have easily made it through today and made it through yesterday literally not putting the phone down. This is all while running the browser, facebook widget, weather widget, phone calls, gtalk, etc.

When I had the Pre I was nervous to use the browser for any amount of time because I was afraid that then later in the day when I needed to make a call I wouldn't have any battery left.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Did you test it by using your Windex Streak Free Glass cleaner on it to make sure it was glass

I am glad that it is glass as well and not plastic. Now if I can just figure everything else out I will be happy.

    Not sure of the material.

But I am definitely not putting a protector on. I never put one on my storm either.

Naked storm since January. No scratches.

Since we are on the screen topic... if you want to keep it clean and looking good you should look into buying some iKlear. I can't live without that stuff.

The screen is the reason I did not buy the Droid. While it is a nice size, it is not as good as I thought it would be. I was rendering pages on the hero and droid simultaneously, both at 100% brightness levels. There was no instance where I thought the Droid had a better picture. I thought the picture was a bit yellowish and washed out looking. The higher res is nice, but I found no real advantage for my day to day use. I still had to zoom of "real" web pages in order to read them. The Amoled screen of the Samsung Moment is much better imho. There is nothing washed out looking about it, but this is a blueish hue to it. I am going to play with the Droid again today. See if I change my mind.

No offense, but I think you are way off here. I find the screen to be vastly superior to any other smartphone I have ever used, including all iPhone models and the Palm Pre.

I'd have to agree with you. I have a hard time looking at my iPhone screen right about now.

I never compared it to an iphone. I walked into Verizon planning to buy two. I walked out with none. Why? I expected more from the screen that everyone says is the greatest. . Maybe the one I was playing with had a problem. It was cranked up at full brightness. I will try another store. You can not compare Droid screen screen to an Amoled based device like the Zune HD.
