Does anyone know that if we use our Google Voice numbers .. does it count as in-network calling?

I would like go through GV... but not if it doesn't use anyone's anytime minutes.

if it dials through google voice then your call goes through the proxy number, and that uses your minutes. I have it set to prompt me on every call if I want to use google voice or not

As far as I know any call coming in to you from GV is against your minutes, if you use voip over the network connection (dunno if there are apps for that yet) it shouldn't use your minutes. But every call from Google Voice I can think of will count against ya.

Since I don't have unlimited texts, well as of the 14th I wont, I'm going to use GV and Gmail to catch and send my texts... Keep the app around as it will be useful and you can use it to screen calls and make em occasionally, it's just not a VOIP solution.

Unless you're on a bottom-rung (minute-wise) plan you should have 5 or 10 Friends and Family numbers you can specify, to which you will get unlimited calling that doesn't count against your anytime minutes. Just add your "proxy" number to this list to cover your outbound calls, and add your Google Voice number to the list to cover inbound calls. For inbound calls you'll also have to set Google Voice to present you Google Voice number as the Caller ID for this to work for inbound calls.

This seems to be a common tactic in just about every other forum I've run across. Am I missing something here?

I believe it. When I was on a 1400 minute family share plan with my wife and 11-year-old son I think the max they used (combined) in any one month was 50 minutes. I think Google Voice is still worth keeping around as a service, if not the app itself. Before having a Droid or other phone on which I could "easily" use Google Voice, I still used it in cases where I didn't want people having my real phone number. If they called back (my Google Voice number) and it became a problem, I could just block their calls.
