USB dismounted when receiving an IM

When I have my Droid plugged into my computer and the SD card mounted, if I receive an IM the card will be instantly dismounted and any file transfers that were going on are interrupted.

Is there a way to disable the interruption of file transfers and/or prevent the card from dismounting all together?

you could put your phone in airplane mode before you start transferring files.

If I did that I wouldn't be able to receive phone calls. Sure, that would be a temporary work arround, but not an ultimate solution.

Sign out of your IM client before transferring files?
