A few days ago I posted that I was unable to send/receive MMS messages. I called VZW tech support and they tried several things before telling me that I needed to do a factory reset. I gulped and did so, and it fixed the problem.

As far as I can tell I lost no application data except Note Everything notes, which was not a huge deal. All my original apps were in place, although a few, like email, needed to be reactivated.

What I did notice was that my available memory went from 59% to 81%; of course the SD card remained the same. This really surprises me because I'm running the same apps and what little data I seem to have lost wouldn't seem to account for such a huge difference.

I know that in Windows some apps fail to release memory when closed. Does something similar happen in Android? Where did all this memory come from?
