Well, OK!
CyanogenMod 10 is quite similar to stock, and probably never
going to send my XOOM in for repair, and don't actually care for warranty's anyway.
If I wanted stock, in case of emergency, and also an US wifi ICS ROM would work on my Australian
XOOM?
Correct?
I'm probably going unlock the boot loader then root.
I have to buy an few SD Cards first, though.
Remember when devices accepted full SD cards?
I do..

Probably will unlock the boot loader, after backup my photos and songs ( all my apps are covered in my Google account), root from there, during that I would install CWM etc, then flash an new ROM, maybe..
If anything goes wrong I will load the stock ROMS.
Just need to buy an SD Card...

Anyway, if I flash the HoneyComb USA ROM, on my Australian XOOM, will I be able to access
the Australian Google Play Store, and would I receive Australian or US updates.
Does Google know you location, as they never ask you for an option, via GPS or wifi?
I don't want to travel all around the internet looking for an Australian MZ604 ROM!

You would get all US downloads (updates and play store). You might be able to get the Australian play store since you will have root.

You, too.
But, say, I bought an unlocked phone, from US or something, wouldn't I get Australian updates and access Australian
Play Store? I do have an Australian Google Account.

Not as far as the system version cares. As I understand it at least. The US checks a certain server address, while I'd expect the non US version checks another. If you can locate the play store on your current install, you should be able to use it in whartever ROM you choose.

Not for updates. They use Mac address on the wifi is what it looks for since you would be running the US version, it is logged that way. IP would be unreliable cause it changes in general.

So I can still update?
Just US updates, which is better anyway!
I've been told that even if you have an US ROM, you still only get Australian Play Store, and Australian Updates.
I guess people have their own opinion.

Mine is an assumption based on what I do know. In most cases using a custom ROM , will not get an OTA update from the maker of the ROM an never from motorola.

Since it logs the mac address and the version it is using that is how it looks for updates. When an update comes out for specific version it goes through that version list of mac addresses and sends out beacons to the mac addresses. Then they report back with a yes sir.

hopefully that makes sense.

I just asked an unlocked-phone website about this conundrum.
Apparently, even if the phone was an US phone, it checks your location, carrier, MAC, IP and account country.
All this helps justify the Play Store and OTA updates.
I'll probably ask some other websites for an averaged answer.
I guess all my silly questions are solved, oh well..
Have an great Day.
