DVDcat added some more presets for the Xoom. I tried out both with some Star Wars dvds last night and they work great. The dev is very quick to respond to questions and he has tweaked his program to make Xoom owners happy. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this program over handbrake. There are many other settings under "power users" AND you can rip one movie to have it converted for several devices at the same time (i.e. Xoom and Incredible...)

Is it free? How does it compare in the time it takes to convert?

Good question, too much of my library is already ripped using HandBrake, I had opted long ago to use HighProfile setting and just rolled with it. I also have a license for Danuisoft app, but when I used the iPad setting the file is like 3.5-4.5GB and that is way too large. Perhaps when I have 15-20TB of storage on a NAS I can do that.

Handbrake Normal

Used Handbrake v0.9.2 on the NORMAL setting. Ripped two DVDs last night.

1st movie was 136 minutes - Ripped mp4 file size was 1.5 GB.
Played perfectly on my Xoom.

2nd movie was 90 minutes - Ripped mp4 file size was 1.05 GB.
Played perfectly on my Xoom.

The only caveat here is that it takes Handbrake about 2 to 3 hours to rip a DVD.

Looking to see if anyone has found a better preset than NORMAL.

From what I've read, I'm afraid to upgrade my Handbrake version as it seems to be working just fine.

More on Handbrake

Running on Mac OSX 10.6.7

I just upgraded to the latest Handbrake v0.9.5.

Downloaded latest version of VLC (per HandBrake requirement).

Grabbed the presets from a post found on Xoomforums.com mentioning a file from a YouTube video.

Xoom Forum post:
HandBrake Video Converter

YouTube Video (You can get the preset file here:
YouTube - ‪How To: Encode 720p HD video for Motorola Xoom & Apple iPad 2‬‏

Encoded a 111 minute movie from DVD. It took about 1 1/2 hours to complete. The file size is about 2.7 GBs.

Copied the file to my Xoom with the Android File Transfer application using USB.

The movie plays fantastic. The quality is superb. My first two movie attempts using NORMAL setting yielded about 1 GB file size, but the image quality wasn't nearly as good, but definitely acceptable.

Remember to change the file suffix to "mp4" (Handbrake tries to save as m4v).

I'll rattle off the presets that I see:
Format: MP4
Video Codec: h.264
Framerate: Same as source
Average Bitrate: 3500

[Audio]
Track: English (AC3) (5.1 ch)
Codec: ACC (faac)
MixDown: Dolby Pro Logic II
SampleRate: Auto
Bitrate: 128

[Subtitles]
None

[Advanced]
Reference Frames: 1
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Motion Estimation: Diamond
Subpixel ME & Mode Decision: 6 RD

Here the Advanced Option String:
ref=1:bframes=0:subq=6:mixed-refs=0:weightb=0:8x8dct=0:cabac=0:weightp=0:me=dia

Good luck! It shouldn't be this hard to watch videos on our tablets.

Shame on ALL parties involved for punishing EVERYONE as the lowest common denominator.

All DVDs ripped by me are DVDs I personally purchased and own.

Here's a question for you. How do I actually get the movie file off of the DVD first? I'm assuming I have to pull it off the DVD first and place it on my desktop or somewhere before directing handbrake. No?

I used this guide here and uploaded battle Los Angeles and true grit and its phenominal. Video is crisp and clean and the audio sounds wonderful on my Bose quietcomfort 3 headphones. Kind of a pain in the butt from start to finish but once its done its completely worth it.
