To smart for its own good? how smart is too smart?

Hi im new.
Was looking through the great info on here of the new smart phones and talk of dual core processors and new doodahs when it hit me that phones are realy going full throttle now in terms of development and how theyre getting so much better so much faster than anything i can think of.
This got me wondering, how powerfull is it practical for a mobile device to get? I mean one day will someone turn around and say "um to be honest , theres no need for a mobile phone to be this good , theres no software that needs to run on this thing that requires this power that is practical to use on a mobile device" and will the market just go stale , with no new products bothering to go over this ceiling?
This is just a topic of conversation, please dont be mean.
