PDF files downloading to htc evo 4g

I am having an issue with downloading PDF files to my evo 4g htc. I have Sprint as my carrier. I have loaded the Adobe PDF reader. I can open and read PDF files and Excell files that are emailed as attachments. I have a data base where we file PDF reports for customers. I cannot download and view these from the server. When I do download they are converted to a .bni file and I get a message that the phone cannot open because it does not have an application associated with the file. That said my wifes phone which is a samsung 3s (her carrier is with verizon) can download and view these files with no problems and that is going to the server and then completing the download process. My business partner also cannot download or view these files and he has the new samsung phone also with sprint. Any help would be appreciated..
