Anyone try any kind of root app? One that will do it without a PC? just wondering if it can be done...

I think there are some, but I prefer to root my device myself. That way i know what has been done to it.

Easy Root is the only apk that I have ever used before on other phones, but not on my Nexus 5 yet. Google it a read up on it.

Pretty sure if you have the bootloader unlocked you can use Flashify to flash a custom recovery, then flash superSU or something from recovery to gain root. All that can be done on the phone except the bootloader unlock.

My phone was previously rooted but you can flash a recovery without a computer using the app in the screen shot
