Give it a few more days. People are just starting to receive their units and beginning to set them up.

Hmm I've only come across one bad review and a couple of good ones. One of the good reviews was from phone Arena which I think? Is a pretty good source?

Nexus 5X Review | Bad battery life sinks the 5X | Digital Trends

Don't really know this site, but not good regarding battery

Read it and the battery situation is the same with my Nexus 5 which I find acceptable since I'm a heavy user. And with the faster charging times, it's a fair trade off.

It just seems like right out of the gate, at the start of the Digital Trends review, they didn't like it at all and we're nothing but negative Nancys the whole time. Once a bunch of regular Joe's and Jane's get it in their hands to put up some real life daily use scenarios then we can talk more.

Battery seems average. I got about 2 hours SOT to 50% usage. I had to restart the phone so stats are a bit messed up now but reckon I'll be good for 4 hours after first charge. Hope it improves a little in the next few days.

As an aside, I think Google have concentrated on the wrong aspect of battery life with Doze. I for one couldn't care less about losing the odd % while not using the phone. SOT and longevity while the phone is working is more important, and that has been missed again.

That's what I was/am hoping for. Longer usage time.
Digital trends review I think is BS. I do not believe anything they say.

I've had it 4 days and the battery life is pretty bad if i'm honest.

I used to be OK with my last phone (nexus 4) as i wireless charged it everywhere (like sat at my desk at work id drop it on the pad between using it etc..), because i now have to plug it in i don't bother when i know ill need it again in 5 mins, and it barely lasts till 4pm.. I had to charge at 2pm yesterday.

Yes it charges fast.. and I only need to plug it in once.. but I do need to plug it in and that's a problem.

I'm talking real world use here BTW.. not screen on time or whatever people are measuring. I could my phones battery in terms of getting up at 6AM and being able to work a full day in the office with it, and still make it home without it dying.

HOWEVER.... I am using it more as its new.. so i think my usage needs to settle done to normal levels now before i make judgement, as the wow/shiny/new factor means i keep touching it when i normally wouldn't have.

So far I have found that screen time is good, but nothing revolutionary. What is in fact revolutionary for me, coming from the N4, is the battery usage with doze/sleep/standby. It barely registered any usage overnight. I am very happy with that since all power leaks seem to be an issue of the past now with this new architecture and sub processor. Loving it.

I've had my 5X since Monday and I've been far than impressed with the battery life.

Yes, it's my new phone and I'm using it more than I would on an average day, but I still don't feel I'm doing anything too strenuous with it.

The battery is yet to last a whole day. It appears that 25% of the battery life is being gobbled up by the OS and the Android system. Wasn't Marshmallow designed to conserve energy and therefore extend battery life?

Let's hope it's OS related and can be fixed with a simple software update.

Battery is very important to me. This is one of the phones i'm looking to get but i'm concerned about the battery. I'm currently using a 2013 Moto X so I know this battery should definitely be better. I'm going to see what the new Droids look like (even though just about everything has been leaked) and decide from there. I want the support that the Nexus will get but the batter life in the Droids makes them so tempting. Moto and Verizon don't have great track records in terms of updating their phones.

Screen on Time battery drain isn't something the OS can control well. Adaptive brightness is what they can focus on, but it's not like an update to android can otherwise cause the screen to magically use less power (unless there's some bug they're fixing).

What they can do is limit the reach of apps and the damage those apps can do using up your battery, your radio, etc, while your phone is unused. Doze is designed to take a situation where your phone *can* be more idle (sitting on a desk) and make it more idle.

Screen on time battery usage is just an aspect of the hardware.

I've been out and about a bit more today so probably my usage is more reflective of real world for me (less constant playing with a new phone). From 7am till 10pm I've 25% left so not too bad for me.

I've made a few calls, browsed on WiFi, 3g, played some games, done Google + and Twitter etc so expect the battery to work out OK.

Maybe an outlier, but mine was totally acceptable yesterday (Full Day 1 use for me).

Off charger at 0530 and ran it til it was dead (like the phone turned off) which was 9:57pm last night (16hr 27min). I'm also still in the honeymoon stage, so playing with it a lot. I did turn off Ambient Display because it seems buggy to me at this point. Turns on sometimes when it shouldn't, doesn't turn on when I want it too. So, I'll do without it for now.

We'll see how it does after a few more days of "stabilizing" or whatever it does to figure out how to optimize battery life.

These two posts can tell you a lot. Doing a battery run down test you will get much more SoT because you are not having idle time. You get 5 hours SoT and 5 hours uptime. Whereas the second post is only getting 2 hours SoT but probably uptime over 12 hours. This is how my battery has been the first two days. I'm using it at random points throughout the day so about 2-3 hours SoT and I'm in the 35-45 % range when get home after about 18 hours off the charger (6-8 sleeping probably in doze)

I slept with 87 and woke up with about 53% . Phone was propped up. Do we know if doze only works if the phone is flat on surface? 30% drop after about 8hrs sleep just seems like normal battery drain. My cell signal is 5 bars too.
