Posted by my Superia z210-19-2015 07:27 AMLike 0 - I've never owned a Nexus device before and was super excited to get the 5X because I like smaller phones and vanilla Android. I have had Android since day one when the G1 was released and have loved it ever since. But watching these reviews about the new Nexus 5X, and reading things over the last few days, my excitement it's getting very deflated.
Honestly I just think people had greater expectations then what Google delivered, but Google delivered what they believed to be what they wanted and the industry needed. Sure they could have packed their phones with a greater punch, but maybe they have a grander plan down the road that we don't see it. Everyone keeps comparing them to all these other phones and in my opinion why don't they just get the phone that they want. Maybe price is a factor, but if you can't afford it then you can have it. That's the bottom line. Sure I would have loved to see 3 gigabytes of RAM in the Nexus 5X and a little bit bigger battery, 64 gigabyte memory, but overall I think we'll be fine.
I think Google just wants to give everyone one to two years with these phones and next year they're going to come out with something spectacular. They're feeling the market out again because of last year's flop of the Nexus 6. It's not so much a flop as a disappointment to people who like smaller phones. This year they delivered up on that and have the larger version for those who like it that way. With smartphones, size definitely matters.
All in all, unfortunately it seems like we can't have our cake and eat it too when we really want that experience. I'm not sure why Google doesn't do more surveys or poll the people who matter and deliver on that.
Maybe right now these things are just more expensive to make and they cant. Maybe their hands are tied. I'm not sure, but when my Nexus 5X arrives this or next week, I'm going to play around with it as much as I can and hopefully not return it BECAUSE I really want to like the 5X. I think I will, but if I don't then I'm probably going to look into some of the other smaller higher end phones such as the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. I'm coming from Z3 Compact now and love the phone except for my headphone jack broke and no one will fix it. So that kind of defeats listening to music or watching movies with headphones. I like to go on runs and listen to podcasts and I can't do that with the phone. So I was going to make my Sony Xperia Z3C my backup phone to the Nexus 5X if that is to my liking when it arrives.

Had the 5X for 5 hours so far, it is SO much nicer than the Z5 Compact....10-19-2015 09:35 AMLike 4 - I'm coming for a z3 compact and I can understand that. I haven't looked at the specs, but it seems like Sony probably just loaded it with tons of megapixels to make it seem better. Not to mention that their camera software is awful. I've been waiting for fixes that haven't come yet. If you're good at adjusting manual settings, maybe it's worth getting.

I just really enjoy having a smaller handset and could not even picture myself with anything larger than the 5.2 inch screen size. The Sony Z3C is 4.6 and that is small enough, but just a tad bit small IMO. I think, for me (my hand size and to be able to put it into my back pocket when I am walking around or in my waist holder for runs) the 5 - 5.2 in screens are the sweet spot. Anything larger I will just use my tablet for because that is why I have it.
Ultimately I want a phone that has good battery life #1, is small enough to fit into my pocket #2, gets good updates for vanilla Android (why I chose the Nexus) or has good ROMs to flash if I'd like, and performs well #3. I am not a gamer so I don't need exceptional processing power or RAM memory. I just have a lot of on screen time because I am always working on it all throughout the day. Sony's battery life has been perfect because I usually go to bed still above 50% and have 3-4 hours of on screen time easy.10-19-2015 02:21 PMLike 0 - I've never owned a Nexus device before and was super excited to get the 5X because I like smaller phones and vanilla Android. Finally someone says the battery life is long 😁

They seem to have a good perspective on things and clearly give their opinion without being too over the top. At least that's my experience with them so far. The recent Digital Trends review seems like they hated The phone out of the gates and went even give it a just do. I think we need to have a bunch of regular users get a hold of it first and go through the paces for a few days before making our own educated opinion.

Digital trends doesn't know how to do a well balanced review a bit over exaggeration on battery life.

On the whole mostly positive words. I think the general opinion on the 5x is that it is the more affordable people's Nexus at the right size and right price point.
