Anybody noticing delayed emails via gmail app since 6.0.1? I'll have to open app and sometimes refresh to get emails. Sort of defeats the purpose.

Doesn't seem to matter if I have WiFi on or off.

I use Inbox but I've been having the same problem over the past month or so. Don't know if it's been since the 6.0.1 upgrade though.

This has been a continual problem for me and I have had difficulty finding other users with the same issue or finding a resolution. ALL my email is delayed, whether it's gmail or comcast email that I have set up to come into my gmail account. It is always at least a day after I receive it on my computer. This has been the case since I changed from my Nexus 5 with T-mobile to my Nexus 5X with Google Fi. I have repeatedly checked my settings, removed and reinstalled the email addresses and it does not even respond to forced syncronization. Phone is not rooted, Android 6.0.1 with latest security patch 1/1/16. Any ideas?

I don't have this issue. Sometimes my phone gets Gmail before my desktop notifies me.

Did you clear the cache partition while the Gmail app was uninstalled?

Is auto restore enabled on your phone in settings>>>backup and reset? If it is, you might want to disable that as you could be reloading the same configuration that is causing issues.

I've been having the same issue. In my case, it seems like sync is getting stuck. Pretty damn annoying...

[edit]: btw, where's the "refresh" button in the gmail app now...it seems to have disappeared for me (honestly, I'm okay with needing to manually refresh...I'm not okay with having to go into the account settings and turning sync off and on again to get it to work).

Drag DOWN on your screen to refresh.

"Stuck" on an app that works for most other people typically means some bad data somewhere. You have to figure out how to clear out the possibly bad data and start FRESH.

I think if it were a "flaw" then it would affect a lot more people....

    I'm also on Tmo.

This sounds pretty typical of my Gmail experience on my N4, and I fully expect it to be that way on my 5X when it arrives tomorrow. It's always the last device to get Gmail notifications. My webOS phones actually get push email notifications, whereas my Android devices (I also have an N7 2013) get the same notifications anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes later. Usually I'll see the notification on my Pre2, and if I pick up my N4, it hasn't received the same email yet and I have to open and refresh the email app to get it. Same behavior in both the stock mail app (cm12.1, so not the Gmail app) and the Google Inbox app.

I had an issue where I wasn't receiving any emails for my hotmail account using the Gmail app. I switched to the Outlook app and it works a lot better.

    Nexus 5X is the business!

Are those that are having issues with delays talking about emails that are culled from other email accounts?

Oddly enough it may be just emails I'm having forwarded. I will try and pay closer attention. Regardless it shouldn't be happening. My tablet is getting emails just fine.

Also I just updated the gmail app and still experiencing delays.

Would be interesting to know if it is just the forwarded emails....

I was getting zero notifications from my gmail app. I updated the app yesterday. This morning I received 3 emails plus I sent myself a test email and all notifications (light, sound, icon) worked. I hope that was the fix.
If your still having problems, try updating the app.

If you're not getting emails, make sure you're using push (or none or off in the refresh time). A 30 minute refresh time guarantees a 30 minute delay in receiving some emails (ones that come into the server right after the last refresh). Off or push sends the email to the phone as soon as it arrives at the server.

I'm sorry, where is this setting? I can find it neither in the gmail app itself nor in the google account settings. I'm pretty sure there _used to be_ such a setting. But I'm wondering if it's one that google in its infinite wisdom decided to remove.

And in my case, it is not just forwarded messages that aren't coming through.

[edit]: And I have updated the gmail app to the most recent version.

Don't have the issue myself, but it looks like maybe there is a fix soon?

This article The Gmail Sync Bug's Fix Is Rolling Out Over The Next Week, No App Updates Necessary indicates Google is about to address this with a Gmail (backend) update.

I had this exact problem. Had to create an AC account just so I can help you lol. Gmail would only pull down emails if I went into the app. This is because of "Doze". Marshmallows sleep battery save feature. To fix this (i have Nexus6) I went to settings, battery, select the three dots in upper right corner, select battery optimization, select the drop down under " not optimized" select all apps. Located gmail app and select it to be "not optimized". Emails now come in automatically and i havnt noticed any battery issues. Still get same battery usage that i did before ymmv.

    Good luck!!

Doze doesn't seem to affect my Gmail app and I didn't do any customizing to the optimization settings....but all my Gmail traffic is forwarded to Gmail via Yahoo and Hotmail (I don't pull it into Gmail)

Maybe pull was the wrong wording. I did not do any optimizing either but when I upgraded to Marshmallow I was no longer getting gmail notifications at all. Unless I opened the app and Pulled down on the interface to refresh (as one does). Then the Emails would come into the gmail app and I could see them. Once I did the "Doze" fix emails\notifications happen automatically now without me having to go into the app just as it did pre-marshmallow. what this fix does is keeps doze from putting gmail to sleep and prevent it from getting new emails.

this is just what worked for me. I did this fix back in early December. and havnt had a problem since.

Edit: PS I too have Multiple Email accounts forwarding to my gmail account...not sure if this is a symptom but since you mentioned it.
