The update that we get out of the box didn't apply to my phone. It downloaded, I tapped restart and install, it counted down to zero, then just went to the check for updates screen saying I was up to date. I'm stuck on build MDA89D and I still have no update.

I got it yesterday on the 3rd. It prompted for an update as soon as I powered it on. What's your build number?

Nope. I went to About Phone > System Updates and told it to check .. after a few seconds it changed to the time I did it and said no updates available.

Huh ok weird. I don't know why it downloaded an update for me, it was like 43 MB. But I guess I'm not outdated at least. Still that update with the November security patch should be coming to us sometime.

There was someone else who said they got a notification of an update when they started the phone for the first time but then when they went to check again they couldnt get it back it might just be a false update for whatever reason

These are likely the security updates, can be seen in about with the security date. I'm still showing D and October 1st. November is in the process of rolling out and it does seem to be a staged rollout.

I'm not sure what it was. I applied the update before popping my SIM in, I'm on K with the Oct 1 security patch level.

My 32GB 6P has failed this update 3 times this week now, I am stuck on MDA89D. It automatically detects the update, and when it reboots to install after about 3 seconds I get the Dead Android Error screen. When it boots, I get the 'New OS' message, which leads to the 'System Corrupt' message, after which it finally boots. I have not tweaked anything from the factory... no rooting or anything.

I have received the System Corrupt message on boot since I unboxed the device, so I assume that is related to its factory unlock status. But if this update failure indicates something further is wrong, I want to get it swapped ASAP.

I would definitely get it replaced. Mine doesn't do that.

Do a factory reset.
